Yoga Therapy Today

Schakrachart_thumb.gifo I’m here in Newport Beach, CA for the annual IAYT Conference.  I’ve been wanting to go for years, but circumstances, timing, and other life stuff has gotten in the way.  But, not this year and I’m so excited.

Yoga Therapy is a growing niche within the hugely expanding yoga community and I’m very excited to see how it’s being recognized by the medical community.

Yoga, for me, was always more than just the poses and the practice.  From my very first class in 1976 I recognized it’s potential for reaching deep inside and revealing those places where the samskara’s keep us blocked.  Since 2001, I have offered one-on-one sessions to clients and have seen amazing results.  Classes are a great way to allow students to practice but there’s no substitute for having personal attention and a program laid out just for you.  Not everyone can attend a class, or should.  Yoga Therapy is appropriate for everyone, regardless of your limitations, and doing yoga will absolutely change your life for the better.

First-Quarter Leo Moon……….creative pursuits take priority

Heading to the NJ State Folk Festival this weekend where I’ll see one of my favorite harp teachers.  I’m really excited to hear some current folk music.   It’s been a while.   As a “baby-boomer-extraordinaire” I spent countless hours listening to people like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Tim something?……   It’s a maritime theme this year and I just attended a local photowalk and took these pictures (scroll down) experimenting with b/w in the fog. I rarely spend time around boats so the sychronicity is hard to ignore.

Music touches and heals us like no other activity. It’s A Documented Truth. Playing instruments, singing songs, or listening to others play and sing lights up our brain cells and activates the neural plasticity that is being written about so frequently now.

That yod I mentioned yesterday….it’s energizing my Sun in ways that are amazing to experience…physically, mentally, and most obvious (to me) synchronistically.   Does that make sense?  It’s hard to verbalize.

Time to go learn Row, Row, Row your Boat on my harp……

New Moon & Winter Solstice, happening now…….

CHARTS

Dear Ones,

It’s a really special day today.  Two wonderful moments happen with hours of each other, the Winter Solstice sun/moon/earth alignment and coincidentally, a New Moon.  Both events herald an auspicious time on their own.  And, then, when you add in the recent 6th of the 7 squares, and say goodbye to saturn in scorpio it  can get a little overwhelming….and, since Jupiter does things big, in a friendly fire sign like Leo he is jovial beyond the point of tolerance some times, you know?…………anyway, I AM rambling here…..mostly because Neptune continues to provide  these  lovely “rose-tinted glasses”.! 

I know that most of you don’t really understand what I just wrote…..but perhaps many of you do?  Astrology, whether or not you “believe” in it or not, is still a wonderful Language to learn.  It is genderless, colorless, lacks a political point of view, and has no bias, opinion, or judgement in it’s dialogue.  It is us, in our own minds/hearts that makes it “good” or “bad”.   Enuf said.   Learn a new language for the New Moon.

Anyway, it’s a busy day for me and now it’s time to prepare for storytelling and sadhana……

The headlines today are atrocious.  Reading them is an assault upon an assault.

Meanwhile, the holidays are upon us and it’s time to work on things like gratitude, compassion, joy & equanimity.

Aftermath………..

The Sun, Moon, Venus, Regulus & Transpluto are all moving thru my third house and the emphasis is on all-things-Virgo. Yes, I know it’s going to be Libra-time for the Sun in a couple of hours, but there are other things happening in the sector called Virgo that when approached with the right attitude can actually be quite pleasant and I want to savor it. Virgo is all about the everyday self-care rituals that keep us healthy. But, not just the body. We all need to apply self-care to our spirit & our souls as well, and that’s what telling a story yesterday did for me.

Even as I took the ‘stage’, I still couldn’t figure out exactly why I’m telling this story…..now. Here? My story-support group (and you know who you are) said I told it the best ever….. I suppose I could tighten it up even more if I wanted to. But why? And what’s the purpose? Regardless I feel complete……it was a daunting task, and the pay was poor, but the benefits were huge and that really was a nice conversation I had with that inter-racial couple afterwards and it would have never happened otherwise………….

Stories can be many things. Entertainment. Documentary. Educational. And, stories can also be therapeutic & healing and a way to practice self care for our soul. Much of my professional life I am helping people to get ‘out of the story’ and to just feel the sensations & feelings that are present in the moment. Stories can and do take us into our heads a lot of the time, and astrology teaches that there is a time & place for everything, even getting into our heads and churning out some good stories.

So, I think that whilst the Virgo Moon is still agitating my third house, I’ll finish the editing on my story for a print version and maybe publish it…….? here?

New Moon Wednesday…..that means that we are all in the balsamic phase of the lunar cycle. Time to rest.

Sam_JeanThis Sunday is The NJ Storyteller’s Festival and I’ll be on a stage at 4pm. Me and stages have had a comfortable relationship thruout my life. I’ve been on them many times, for many reasons, with groups and solo a lot, too. But, this time, it feels really new and different and scary/exciting…….

I’m telling a personal story that my parents might seriously disapprove of. But, I am soon to be 65 and they are both, long gone as is everyone that I know of in their generation. I am the elder now……daunting.   And, this story did indeed impact my life in ways that are so much clearer today.

This is a photo of my mother and Uncle Sam, her brother, who was a favorite uncle until he disappeared from my life.

Being a Scorpio, life can be a mystery to me much of the time.  Being born in a family that had ‘secrets’ fueled my curiosity in ways that continue even today.

If you’re in or around the Grounds for Sculpture in NJ (a fabulous backdrop to the day!) come and hear some stories…….  maybe you’ll get inspired to tell your own?

It’s Labor Day Weekend …..

…..and I for one will be glad to see the population shrink back down to us locals.

The upcoming Storytelling Festival, of which I am a part, is featuring stories about New Jersey.  We have been a state for 350 years.  States have horoscopes also, in case you did not know that.   My personal NJ story is as old as I am, being a lifelong resident of this small, crowded, but beautiful state.   I have many stories to tell, and choosing the right one(s) for this event is a daunting task.

Here’s the chart for the Monmouth County Shore Area….Long Branch, Asbury Park, Neptune, Belmar areas.    It occurs at 10:12 am this morning.  That means that we should all take advantage of the remaining hours left of the Balsamic Phase to rid ourselves of whatever toxic waste, (ama) we have collected since the last New Moon.  Capishe?
