THE ART OF THE EVER-TRUE
“May all be guided by truth.
May we all have beauty revealed to us.
And, May it result in the Good”
Workshop Description.
A multicultural/spiritual approach to the construction of geometric patterns using a compass and a straight edge, the traditional tools of the geometer.
Short lecture/slides will demonstrate how geometric patterns show up everywhere. I.e. Sacred Geometry.
The process offers something safe, joyful and therapeutic. Each time we place the compass point our minds quiet. Whether we are drawing circles, squares, triangles, spirals or mandalas, each session offers an opportunity to finding the still point within themselves.
Although each workshop offers a different pattern, the format of the class will remain the same. Social Silence is encouraged, thus increasing Mindfulness. This helps in creating a safe space for those using this activity as a spiritual practice.
EXPLORING THE ONENESS …..
Yoga unites us thru our bodies, minds and spirit. We are one in our classes. Geometry is like that too. A square is different than a circle. We are one in our agreement of that. And, how we express this common understanding and agreement is our own personal Art/Creation.
FINDING THE SACRED IN THE STILLPOINT…
Constructing various patterns by such simple means satisfy’s the brain and warms the heart. Feelings of harmony, satisfaction, and delight permeate are available….as are frustration, perfectionism, and self-judgement. Yoga philosphy teaches us how to stay centered thruout.
One begins to look closer when drawing the ‘creation’ patterns with the traditional geometer’s tools of compass and straightedge. It’s an in-the-body experience that words can’t describe.
Why Geometry?
Geometry is the study of shapes and spatial relationships. and, it can be seen as a way t understand the pysical/natural world and its structures. Feng Shui, Vastu Shastra, Geomancy & Medicine wheels are ways geometry informs us.
With it’s focus on shape, patterns and symmetry it is considered sacred in that it displays the underlying tructure of the universe. and it’s principles are something that is universally agreed upon…no one argues the shape of a square.
To do nothing more than draw some of these simple patterns can be not just therapeutic, but euphoric and joyful, for that is our “Buddah Nature”, is it not?
The process offers something that feels free and safe, where the mind can unfold, reflect and shed some of the chatter.
.
WHO IS THIS FOR? WHO CAN BENEFIT?
This art form attracts a diverse group of practitioners. Anyone & everyone can learn something. I have been in classes with: artists, hobbyists, architects, musicians, teachers: math, science, art, philosophy, physics, dance, astrologers, psychologists, therapists, alternative therapies, yoga and meditation teachers.
Some added benefits include:
- Stress Reduction
- Removal of obstacles to one’s creativity,
- Increased Self-Awareness
- Creates community & supports common purpose
- Advances mindfulness practices
Since I began to draw these geometric patterns , I’ve come to understand their relevance to human life. There’s a reason that geometry is the only science we call sacred, a suggestion that opens the door to a transformative opportunity if one is interested/curious.
Prior to my devotion to a compass, I got caught up with the Zentangle fad. I re-discovered how doodling with no purpose could be therapeutic and creative. Hard to describe what I *learned* but I do know that my brain felt good, before, during, and after.
