So, we’re in the middle of two eclipses and five planets are retrograde.  You don’t really need to know much about astrology to get a sense of the epic time cycle we’re living in.    It really doesn’t matter where you look there’s change, upheaval, and fluctuating conditions mostly everywhere.  You can try to block it out using whatever methods/medicine/magic you have at your disposal.  But relief is temporary.  There really are some terrible things happening if we are to believe the images and words on our screens.  It’s important to check in with the people around you since many are feeling fragmented, confused and hopeless.   Anyway, it’s  an auspicious time to Inquire Within and the stars will guide us accordingly.  It might not read as a “fun, summertime activity” but, for those who understand how transmutation and transformation work, the opportunity provided to you from this upcoming program is priceless.

rwbdoodleifc Last Saturday I logged onto a webinar offered by Kepler College of Astrological Arts & Sciences.  A panel of five mundane astrologers discussed politics, race relations, the economy, and other various hot topics.

They posted the charts they used online which made it quite easy to  follow the discussions. It was fascinating to see the variety of techniques and charts they used.  As always, the astrology of current events leads one to a much more comprehensive understanding of what is going on at any given time.  Astrology reveals the nuances and hidden subtleties that are often overlooked by the current herd-mind*  (*I refer you to the brilliant Jeffrey Wolf Green, one of my earliest teachers.)

Astrology, is a language of symbols, which creates a much broader, wider, context by which to understand & discuss events.  Dane Rudyar, another one of my most inspirational teachers,  writes, “…astrology is always symbolical when properly understood. All depends on what is meant by symbol. Algebra is also purely symbolical, and yet algebra and higher mathematics have made possible modern science and the age of machines. Astrology is fundamentally the algebra of life.” (AP p.18)

Anyway, each panelist mentioned the August 24, 2016 conjunction of Mars & Saturn in 10 Sag. as a notable upcoming transit.  They all agreed  that regardless of who gets elected,  the USA is in for a difficult time ahead.  The transits to the chart of the USA are nothing less than transformational.  That’s the bad news.   And, that’s the good news too.  (I published the chart of the USA in my previous post)

After the webinar I was inspired to spend some time on my own studying the algebra of this upcoming cycle and even before I write any commentary I want to go on record with the following dates which mark the more stressful moments.  Please allow a 2-3 day orb…..

  • Aug 24 2016
  • Nov 9 2016
  • Jan 19 2017*
  • Mar 27 2017
  • May 29 2017*
  • July 30 2017
  • Oct 11 2017*
  • Jan 5 2018
  • Apr 2 2018*

What’s important is to think of this time period, 8/24/2016 – 4/2/2018 as one complete cycle of Mars/Saturn.  The dates represent  ‘hot’ spots. And those dates with an * are hotter than the others.  More on this later.  An important detail to note is that right now, these weeks leading up to Aug 24, are the balsamic (closing) phase of the current cycle which is coming to completion.  That cycles was birthed in Aug of 2014 at 17 Scorpio.  Masters and teachers alike have always asked us to move towards our conscious connection to spirit during balsamic times.  Solitude, contemplation, prayer, meditation, those are the preferred activities during the balsamic phase of any cycle.   If the Mars/Saturn cycle represents (among other things) our evolving/devolving/revolving relationship with: authority, police, military, power, the law, rules, aggression, violence, malevolence, and that sort of thing, we have much to process and heal from before Aug 24, 2016 otherwise,  whatever is unresolved gets dragged into the new making it not-so-new at all and complicating any efforts to really start anew.

What was not discussed during the webinar was how to move thru these difficult times.  That’s what I want to talk about……there’s much to discuss. It’s definitely time for another Salon for Astrological Discourse.  Stay tuned for date.

rwbdoodleifcAll three top presidential candidates have Pluto in Leo at their birth.

Between 1937 & 1956  Pluto moved thru Leo and the “Baby Boomers” were born.   Astrologically speaking, all those born during the same Pluto placement have the same evolutionary/generational challenge: to transform, revolutionize, and bring to a higher level all the issues of what the sign, LEO,  represents.  Being the largest population group for a long time, we’ve made some fundamental changes in our society, beginning in the 60’s.  But the balance of power is changing now and the Millennial population is beginning to en mass as per their particular Pluto placement.  More on them another time.

Pluto represents transformation,  guaranteeing that something gets birthed, something dies, and something is reborn.  That is the essence of what transformation is.    It takes about 20 years for Pluto to move thru a single zodiac sign, 248 years to make one orbit around the sun.  Each human generation is measured by the movement of Pluto thru the  zodiac.  Each zodiac sign symbolizes a whole different  life-lesson or soul’s purpose for those born during this time.   It all gets clearer as you age. Wisdom has its own rewards.   The stress points (hard angles) are particularly revealing.

Leo, is possibly, the most self-absorbed sign of the entire zodiac, most especially about aging, and those boomers are the seniors now.    The youth driven culture that we initiated in the 60’s is now poised to take over the governance of our nation, again as evidenced by the majority of this years presidential nominee’s.

Part of a boomers charm is the ability to remain the eternal child,  the puer aeternus. and that about says it all.  We are the kids who just want to have fun.  It’s a natural response to our Pluto in Cancer parents.  Leo is all about ego and prioritizing ‘self’ over group.  Pluto in Virgos & Libra are our kids. And, Pluto in Scorpio and Sagittarius are our grandkids.   But I digress.

USAMundane astrology is the study of world events, rather than people.  I don’t spend much time with event charts, but there is a lot you can glean from them.  This chart here is the birthchart of the USA.  There is some disagreement among the astrologers as to exact time of birth and other charts have been put forth and argued for.  I choose to use this one.

I bring it up because it’s important to note, even before this election cycle began, that Pluto has been making some serious aspects to the chart of our country.  There’s no denying the fact that we are in the process of re-birthing our nation.  It’s very serious and we need to understand that regardless of how the media (transformed when Pluto traveled thru Sag from 1995-2009), portrays the news and the candidates.    Once again I refer you to the mundane astrologers who have analyzed this better than me.

That said, the candidates are, as usual, perfectly suited to represent the times we are living in.   Bernie & Hillary actually have a lot in common and seem to be quite compatible in many ways.  Jupiter is at the midheaven for both of them and that bodes well.  Donald, on the other hand, well, it’s frightening to consider.  Seriously.

Anyway, that’s enough for now.  Look at the charts for yourself.  It’s a good way to begin studying astrology….watching famous people be who they are.

If you want more of my humble opinion you can sign up for my newsletter on a widget over there on the right.    The Salon for Astrological Discourse will be returning later this summer.

clockandhourglass.jpgWhew. Well, it’s moved on now and no longer in the exact degree of eleven. Those of us who are sensitive to Pluto/Uranus can feel a slight sigh of relief.

During the mid-60’s Uranus and Pluto were about to merge, conjoin and initiate a cycle of Radical Change & Transformation.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The last conjunction was in 1850 in Aries. But that was before we even knew that Pluto existed.  The 1960’s conjunction occurred in middle degrees of Virgo, and other things needed to change and transform. The cycle lasts approximately 138 years and the next conjunction is: Apr.24, 2104 in early Taurus which will display a different theme of Radical Change & Transformation.

One way to think about conjunctions is that they mark the beginnings of a cycle, and cycles begin ‘in the dark’. (ie. the new moon cannot be seen) The ‘dark’ symbolizes the state of being unconscious and can sometimes express itself with spontaneous and impulsive actions. But, not always. The events of the 60’s were just the ‘seedform’ of what will ultimately be seen in 2045 at the full phase of the current cycle.

Today, 2012-2015, the cycle reaches its 90 degree/first quarter aspect, a square. This is the “crisis-in-consciousness” point. I refer you to Buz Myers, Dane Rudyhar, Alexander Ruperti, Barbara Hand Clow. They were (and are still) some of my favorite teachers. Their writings and teachings on ‘the nature of a cycle’ are brilliant and resonate still today.

In 2221, Uranus and Pluto will be conjunct again…starting another new variation of Radical Change & Transformation. And again, in 2357. Radical Change & Transformation. You can mark your calendars. It’s that certain.

On May 24, 2013 Uranus and Pluto squared each other for the first of seven squares occurring between 2012-2015. At the very least, expect major events & global headlines.

Here are the dates for the other squares:

• June 24 2012

• September 19 2012

• November 1, 2013

• April 21, 2014

• December 15, 2014

• March 17, 2015

The current incarnation of astrologers are watching and documenting, and sharing what they see.  And so am I. There’s much to learn.

Anything that involves Uranus and Pluto, involves me, personally. All the time. And, that fact has manifested in the timing of significant events in my life. Uranus and Pluto create incredible havoc when they’re together for everyone, and some of us get walloped personally, at the same time. We may become agents of Radical Change & Transformation.  It’s hard to know how to prioritize things sometimes.

Anyway, this month in our ongoing series of Experiential Astrology & Yoga workshops, we’ll be working this current transit of Uranus & Pluto to decipher where in our lives is Radical Change & Transformation.

Astrology electro-magnetic energy

Today, for me,( because we’re all on different ‘clocks’, right?), started with the moon……, I can feel the conjunction with Pluto/Nodes coming. My dreams are more vibrant, I am inspired to write again. ..and maybe play the harp, too.  My emotional body (manomayakosha) has demanded my attention, yet, again.

It can be exhausting sometimes…..living in the moon.

Pluto is crawling back and forth through the early degrees of Capricorn and anyone with anything there or in the early degrees of Cancer (and, Libra, and Aries) is feeling this magnetic force that is everpresent these days.  The airwaves are full of stories about EMF’s and the dangers of just about everything that is needed to survive something or other.  There’s nothing new under the sun.   These are generational times a’changing which means taking the ‘global’ view of everything.  Capische?

This muddle of planets and nodal action  is moving thru my personal 6th house these days and it’s true…..Changing my daily routine is really hard to do.  How  I manage the gazillion things that must be done on any given day reflects my unconscious behavior patterns or lunar behavior.  (my moon is in the 12th houses.

Yet change I must.    Or not.  The 28 day rule still works well for breaking old habits and replacing them with new, improved, habits.  Your local astrologer can explain to you how to live life with the lunar cycle. ( If not, find me……it’s been quite a specialty!)

In the end (and when is that coming, you say?) it’s still our choice vs.  no choice in how we want to live our daily lives.  We live in a world that perceives it’s environment from a dual-perspective.  Most of us. Until that changes, and it is indeed happening in my world, not much can ever get accomplished.  It’s time for the human race to evolve….regardless of where we began (a sperm cell or a spark from god’s eye), and that’s another keyword for Pluto….evolve/evolution.

One habit that remains in my daily routine is checking the daily horoscope column.  There are so many out there that really try to write a good ‘daily’ but no one does it better than my peer, Michael Lutin from NYC.  Thanks Mikey for this timely reminder!!

It’s time for pranayama & meditation now.     These are the best parts of my daily routine.  Om shanti.

Beginning 11/23 –   11/30, 2010 the North Node of the Moon (Rahu in Jyotish) will be in a conjunction with Pluto at  4 degrees of Capricorn.

(Pluto is not recognized in classical vedic astrology.)

For those of you who are comfortable with the concept of reincarnation and the wheel of karma this time period is  an important one.  Karmic forces are in control.  Not us. Period. Om shanti, peace.

The lunar nodes can be interpreted in a variety of ways.  One perspective is to see them as significators for your personal relationships.   The north node might represent those who take you forward into uncharted territory.  The south node, on the other hand, might represent those in your life who are less challenging and more comfortable to have around.    A piece of data like that can make all the difference between the struggle and/or the peace.

Another way to look at the lunar nodes, in a more spiritual way perhaps, would be to see the south node as the karma you face from your past lives.  The north node would be more representative of the dharma, or purpose of this life…thereby creating new karma for your future lives.   Do you see the wheel turning?

When we add the influence of Pluto to the lunar nodes the impact becomes Absolutely Transformational.

Yoga Therapists:  Deep Process experiences can be both agitating and therapeutic during this time.  Remember to be mindful of your own boundaries and deep issues and do not project your stuff onto your students. Om shanti.

If you have any planets or points located in the early degrees of a Cardinal sign then I’d like to hear from you.  Your  lives are as eventful as mine these days……or soon to be so.

Cardinal energy/signs really like to make plans and do stuff.  Action is key. There are 4 Cardinal signs in the zodiac: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn.  Together they form the axis of an astrology chart- the cross that puts everyone at angles and odds with each other and the world.

Naturally, each of these signs represents it’s ‘doing nature’ differently.  For instance, Aries does things First; that’s important for this fire sign.  It’s soul purpose is to demonstrate the pioneering spirit –  going and doing what hasn’t been done before. Thinking things through takes way too much time so they’re apt to be quite impulsive as they pioneer headfirst into the unknown.

Cancer is a busy sign, too.  Their ‘doing-nature’ is more directed, but none the less active!  Security is their goal and they spend a lot of time securing it.  Establishing a roof over their head is primary, and a tent will do as long as they can call it home.  However, there is another important thing that Cancer’s must do, and that is to feel their feelings.  Our current culture has not been supportive of this important action…..feeling feelings, and therefore a lot of Cancer energy has been delegated to the unconscious where it does it’s acting out surreptiously.

Action and Libra may not seem to go together at first sight.  Libra is Venus ruled and can often show up as sloth and indulgence.  This is not a pretty sight even though Libra always looks good.  Contradictions reign, even though Libra mediates.   Libra’s don’t do first.  They wait for someone else to do something and then they know what to do themselves, either follow along or go the other way.   They always do their doing nicely maintaining a good public image.

The king of doing-nature could be Capricorn, and that particular cardinal sign is currently experiencing active transformation.  Pluto, the planet that might or might not be a planet, is currently moving thru that sector of the tropical zodiac.  (Pluto is not recognized in the Vedic/Jyotish system).  Expect power struggles for a long, long time.

Who knows what will become of Capricorn’s doing-nature throughout this tranformational transit.  In the past this Saturn ruled sign has represented symbolized authority, structure, and management…..someone has to do it, you know?  Capricorn energy shows where and how we are the authors of our  or other people’s lives. It’s a no-frills kind of energy and the goal becomes the purpose and all actions and all doing is directed towards achievement.  Once achieved, another goal/purpose replaces the first one, and on and on it goes.  Capricorns do a lot.

We all have ‘doing-nature’, some of us obsessively.  But, as one of my favorite teachers has said so often, “we are human beings, not human doings”, and that explains a lot to me.

Pluto and Saturn together are stressing out a majority of people on the planet.  That’s a given.  These same astrological aspects are happening everywhere and to all of us.  There’s only one time zone to consider if you look at the life from the cosmic perspective.

Once you understand the cosmic perspective it becomes increasingly important to make life choices accordingly.  During cardinal times, such as these, important decisions and significant changes happen.  These events can be pleasant or unpleasant, either way the physical body responds the same during these stressful times.  Only your mind decides or rather, judges the difference. These human-being-bodies still respond with beating hearts, sweating palms, shortened breaths, and tensed muscles.

I recommend you practice yoga in the ancient ways to help your body/mind integrate all the powerful forces that are impacting our world.   It’s time for me to do that now.  My Moon/Venus/Uranus are all early cardinal.

Om shanti, shanti, shantihi.

Hmmmm. Not sure that title really works with this Plutonian Full Moon today. Anytime I see Pluto in a configuration it feels a little ominous.

Here’s the chart:

Of course, with Venus over there hanging out with the Sun it does soften things up a bit.

Like kittens do.

Shadow appears

This little kitten *appeared in my yard* just about 14 months ago. She showed up at the same time as I was experiencing a sudden and devastating loss. To me, she was an ‘angel’ in disguise. I named her Shadow, because she hid in shadows all the time during our first months.

The other day (she comes around to feed occasionally), I noticed that she had lost a lot of weight? Then she moved aside and I saw, another kitten! Oh my.

Pluto…..transforms us and forces us to grow by reproducing. That’s the essence of why it rules things like AIDS, Cancer, Nuclear & Atomic fission. Nothing can destroy something so utterly and completely like Pluto. The Phoenix represents Pluto well in reminding us that something wonderful can rise up from the ashes of destruction. Pluto is a harbinger of birth, death, & rebirth.

Consider caterpillers. They become butterflies during Plutonion processes, trans – forming from one form of being to another. Pluto doesn’t mess around.

Although violence can be part of a transformation process, it’s not really necessary for ‘a transformation’ to succeed. Pluto happens.

Moving thru Plutonion times peacefully is well-worth the effort. I’ve got another harp gig tonite, which means that I’ll be spending the day feeling anxious & excited at the same time. Looking at today’s transits the moon will be coming into an exact opposition with Venus just as I’m supposed to play. Moon/Venus in Gemini/Sag………….what a great way to communicate……music!

Practice peace with this full moon.

The weather looks great where I am.

Astrology journal entry Miscellaneous Pluto

And, it runs right thru Southern California on my astro-cartography map. AstroCartography is an astrological technique by which we re-draw the ‘map of the heavens’ and place it on Planet Earth. Mathematically, we are transforming time into space…..or rather, integrating them…..together.

I became fascinated by this technique from Jim Lewis way back in the ’80’s. I took a weekend workshop where Jim taught the attending astrologers how to work with his maps and It blew me away! I’ve been playing around with this technique ever since and I’ve come to respect it as much as the more traditional ways to use astrology. When combined with feng shui, astro-cartography becomes a powerful methodology for positive action. Go here to read a post on a related topic.

I don’t have any major lines running thru my current hometown location. I have two paran lines that I cross over if I drive a couple hours south. Other than that, not much going on here for me in NJ.

However, as you can see by looking at this map the line representing Pluto goes right thru Long Beach, California where I am going to be spending a month, soon. Oh dear! For this Scorpio Sun, it’s a mixed blessing for sure. No doubt it’ll be a life-changing (transformational) trip.

 Pluto Line

The horizontal (paran) line that crosses it near Long Beach represents Mercury/Jupiter. Aaaaah. That feels better…..especially since I will be spending a good deal of time writing while I’m out there. For one who earns her living teaching, this location could be quite a ‘page-turner’! 🙂

Transiting Pluto is moving thru my 6th house these days and coming into orb of my Moon/Uranus opp. Venus aspect. It’s the tightest aspect in my chart and hasn’t had a major aspect from Pluto in a long time. Something is getting ready to happen for sure.

So, what to do?

Following my own advice the first thing is to notice….thoughts, feelings, attitudes, expectations, prejudices, all the ‘knee-jerk’, unconscious responses to this information. I confess to a little fear, but also anticipation and excitement too.

For now, I think the task is simply to get comfortable with not-knowing anything (for certain) and stay open to possibilities.

Hmmm. Sounds like a plan.
