Tugging_at_your_harp_stringsWow!  Sunday was my first-ever storytelling performance with a harp, and the audience was delighted.  I recognized some serious applause and I was told later that everyone was talking about me, although, I don’t think it was really me they were talking about….it was really about the harp.  Once again  I forgot how utterly mesmerizing this instrument is to most people….and me too, of course.  For all the worry, anxiety, and practice….the music just flowed exactly the way it was supposed to.

Chiron teaching harp to Achilles

In the first person, I told the story of Chiron’s Birth and why he came to be living in a cave with his harp.

This centaur, known as The Wounded Healer, is a mythological story that has captured my attention for the past 20 years or so and I’m frequently referring to his symbolism in my lectures/workshops and yoga therapy classes.  He’s got a powerful story for our times, for sure.  So many of us  feel wounded, shamed, abandoned and just plain old sad.    I’ve blogged a bit about Chiron, the asteroid, and this post gives a pretty good overview of the astrological Chiron.   Today Chiron is traveling thru Pisces which supports healing thru music.

This was the first time, in a long time, that rather than teach or facilitate,  I practiced Performance & (intentional) Drama.    I was totally unprepared for the sheer joy that I experienced after it was over and thruout the following day.  It was wonderful to find a new, creative outlet that brings together so much of what I love to do, and still challenges me in new ways.  But four minutes is nothing when your hands are on the strings, you know?

Already, I am planning Chapter 2, and expanding my story to maybe 10-15 minutes?  Who knows?  For now, Storytelling is a new hobby/activity for me and I am so excited to see where it takes me.

The WayIt’s been a while since I’ve written any feng shui posts. It’s a
frequent topic for conversation in a couple of my hatha yoga classes.
Go figure.

Yoga. Feng Shui. Well, yes….it does make sense.

Feng Shui is all about looking outside of us to see the things that
usually go un-noticed. Un-noticed, not because they’re hard to see
(which is possible), but un-noticed because we have probably become
habituated or quite accustomed to the sight of what we’re looking at.

For instance, my garage roof is looking quite………………………….untidy.

It’s been that way ever since I’ve moved into the house. It doesn’t
leak or create any problems…..it just looks a little messy. It has an
old wooden roof, moss growing all over it, one shake at the top/center
is missing and, the old white aluminum door is partially green from
lack of sunlight. Last year I spent the entire spring/summer season
cleaning out the inside which is now quite orderly, for me. My garage
sits in the south east corner of my property, sometimes known as the
“resource” gua. In terms of local space feng shui (astrology) the garage is on the line that represents the North Node. Hmm. That’s a tricky one to delineate.

Confucious…….Talented feng shui consultants are able to look at things like my garage and get
a felt sense of where this untidiness or disorder is showing up in my
life. It may or may not have a direct effect on those areas of my life
symbolized by the placement of the garage. It’s possible that a
different ‘polarity’ is being affected. It helps to have a clear mind
when considering (con-sider: with the stars) all of the possibilities.
HOW WE CHOOSE TO THINK about something we see affects the outcome. Yes?
Of course.

Yoga is all about what is going on inside. What is present
emotionally/mentally (especially on the unconscious level) when I look
at my garage? Am I disturbed?

I kinda like it, actually. …….adds a bit of a rustic feeling to
the plastic veneer of typical suburbia. Cleaning it out was a good
thing, it created clear space for other things to happen…………and
A LOT HAPPENED during that time of clean out. Perhaps I’ll tell the
story someday soon.

For now, I think I’ll just go and pick up all the sticks and
branches that have fallen around the yard over the past few windy days.
It’s good to keep the clutter to a minimum. There’s a New Moon today at
18 degrees of Pisces. The sabian symbol is, “In a gigantic tent,
villagers witness a spectacular performance”

Sun’s out!

Bye.

Ancient Wisdom Astrology Feng Shui journal entry

I love to turn the page to the new month on my kitchen calendar. I practice staying present in the month that is and try not to peek ahead to whatever next month’s picture or saying is. It does require some discipline.

Today, the quote for March is from Rumi.

“We have fallen into the place where everything is music”.

How perfect for March, Pisces time.

I haven’t practiced my harp for many weeks. First, I cut my finger. Badly. There was no way I could play my favorite tunes. Of course I could have continued practicing with one hand. But, I didn’t. I tried to figure out why I didn’t, but I couldn’t. So, I just went with the flow and now it’s easily a month later, the harps are sadly out of tune, but my finger is better. It’s time to return to my practice and just in time since the harp ladies have presented me with a group gig that we need to practice for. It helps me when I know there’s something to practice for.

I’m seriously interested in music as a healing modality and I’m thrilled to see music coming to the forefront as a way to practice peace evidenced just this past week with our best Philharmonic Orchestra traveling oversea’s. YES!! This is how we can achieve peace. Put it in the airwaves and begin to eliminate all of the sound clutter that keeps us stressed and anxious.
So….in honor of Rumi, Pisces, March, and World Peace I think I’ll go use these fingers on some harp strings.

Dear Journal,

We’re entering into another eclipse ‘season’. Oh my. On Saturday, March 3 there will be a lunar eclipse at 13Virgo which is the mid-point between my natal Mars & natal Saturn. It’s definitly a hot spot in my chart! I’ve learned that making absolute predictions doesn’t really work……it’s the essence & energy that’s important to understand.

Eclipse’s were feared in ancient times………they always seemed to bring about the death of the king or some other major change. Just imagine looking into the sky and seeing the moon (or the sun) disappear!

Eclipse’s always come in pairs so on March 18 we’ll have a Solar Eclipse at 28Pisces a much easier degree for me personally.

Breathing, relaxing, and practicing yoga is a good way to move thru stressful times. I’ll remember.

……………………………………to be continued.
