Searching for Dharma...
Finding Your Purpose

January, 2006

Dharma is an interesting concept to consider. Philosophers and spiritual seekers have been discussing the idea for thousands of years.  According to some, dharma is the purpose to which we have been born.  To be living our dharma, is to live our True Self.   For those wishing to bring more spirituality into their lives, finding and accepting our dharma can be a major step forward. Just the search alone brings us closer to a truth about ourselves we mightn’t encounter otherwise.

And, for those most fortunate among us who have found their dharma, do you continue to be true to your path?   For, you see, Karma (Dharma’s twin) is always there to create conflict & tension, forever tempting us to abandon our true selves.

Most of us spend the first 40-50 years of our lives running in and out of situations where the karma of the past dominates.  However somewhere around mid-life, (and that comes at a different time for different people…consult your local astrologer for specifics) a shift begins.  By now we are either deep in the muck of our lives and we can see no way out……….”leading a life of quiet despair”…….or, we begin to elevate our consciousness and start viewing the workings of the world (and ourselves) from a higher vantage point. (ie. spiritually, karmically, metaphysically, more philosophically)  Call it what ever you want.  But shift happens.  Or not.  Astrologically speaking, the north and south nodes of the moon along with the aspects of Pluto reflect the nature and circumstances of our dharma and karma.  When examined closely these astrological markers describe the ways in which we can live our dharma and remediate our karma.  The deeper purpose of our lives becomes clearer and more meaningful with the interpretation of the nodes.

This workshop will help you to stop, look, and hopefully listen to the wisdom and guidance that lies with your own heart/mind. As always we’ll first come together and create safe and sacred space to do our personal ‘work’.  We’ll discuss The Astrology of Dharma to set the context for our experiential work. Bring your natal chart if you have one.  We’ll integrate and ground this information by practicing a few of the eight limbs of yoga.  Using small and large group interactions we’ll learn to speak our truth in ways that support us.  We might even add some art and music activities to the mix.  Hopefully, we will all leave renewed, revived and ready to live our truth.

All are welcome whether or not you are new to astrology, yoga, or dharma!  There’s something soulful to be gained by all.  This is what I would call ‘a transformational workshop’ and by that I mean that the possibility of meaningful change is quite possible.  So, if you’re stuck, confused, bored, or simply unhappy and looking for something that can ‘move’ you into new territory, try searching for dharma.

The workshop will be 25% lecture and 75% experiential. The experiential components may include: hatha yoga, astrology, self-reflection, journaling, art, music, dyads, and group discussion. You should bring a mat and a journal, and dress to be comfortable on the floor.
