Lao Tzu

I have just three things to teach:

Simplicity, patience, compassion.

These three are your greatest treasures.

Simple in actions and in thoughts,

You return to the source of being.

Patient with both friends and enemies,

You accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself,

You reconcile all beings in the world.

Thus the wise man residing in the tao

Sets an example for all beings.

Because he doesn’t display himself,

People can see his light.

Because he has nothing to prove,

People can trust his words.

Because he doesn’t know who he is

People recognize themselves in him.

Because he has no goal in mind,

Everything he does succeeds.

Next week I’ll be offering an all day workshop on Feng Shui and I’m really excited about getting back into this venue of ancient wisdom. There’s a lot of good stuff in the wisdom and practices from the Far East, and we could learn a lot.

Feng Shui goes back thousands of years and is closely aligned with the philosophical and spiritual traditions of it’s time. The earliest school of feng shui, the form school, contains the rituals and wisdom of the Tao. (see my previous post and click on the link at the bottom) Later on when the Compass School traditions came into favor, Confucious and his philosophy was the dominant spiritual path. Today, Buddhism is favored and as a result the Black Hat Sect of Feng Shui is the most popular form.

Do a google search of some of these terms and see what comes up. In the workshop we’ll be spending the morning exploring the Black Hat path. Then, in the afternoon we’ll look at the modern-day version of the Compass School which includes Local Space Astrology & Astro-Cartography.

Look for future posts on this popular and powerful subject.

In the meantime:

Let’s start by looking at this map of the USA. It’s set for approximately 6pm, EST, 3/18/07.

solar map usa

The ‘vertical’ lines on the map represent where the orbits of each of the planets are crossing the earth, thereby establishing differing lines of energy.

The horizonal lines that I’ve chosen to display, are called parans and represent the places where the planetary lines cross (somewhere on the planet) a measurement is taken, and then that line of energy is established as well.

So, the theory here is that different places on earth, have different energy patterns at different times. If we know our natal horoscopes we can convert that information to this mapping technique and discover where on earth we could thrive and live our lives more _______________. (fill in the blank).

Feng Shui comes into play, when we scale down these personal maps and place them inside our homes. Then we can see these lines of energy in our living rooms and place our furniture accordingly.

Yup……..it’s a stretch.

Time to practice yoga.

Greetings to all!

I’ve been wanting to begin a blog and it seems like today is the day. The time is 1:38pm on Sunday, February 18 and it’s Chinese New Year…..an auspicious time for beginnings.

I am calling this blog, The Teacher’s Diary and it’s my intention to share with you some of what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) as a yoga teacher. There’s a fine line between being a teacher and a student and more often than not I learn more from my students than they learn from me. More on that in the weeks to come.

For now, it’s enough for me to learn how to set up this blog!

Enjoy & Happy New Year!
