On Sunday a Solar Eclipse will occur in the last degrees of Pisces. Solar Eclipses always occur at the time of a New Moon and usually fall within 2 weeks of a Lunar Eclipse. So much has been written across the net on this that I shall leave it to other astrologers to fill you in.

What I’d like to draw your attention to however, are these few days prior to the New Moon/Eclipse. The balsamic phase of the moon occurs just before a new moon and has it’s own indomitable reputation. That being said here’s an article I wrote a while ago on this lunar phase.

Re-ordering the Solar System

Astronomers often disagree over what it is exactly that they’re seeing. Recently, we’ve watched them downgrade planets to dwarf planets, and discover new dwarf planets that share our Sun. It takes a long time for science to prove something. Astrologers are also cautious when faced with the task of interpreting the symbolism and metaphysical energy of a new orbiting body. What the astrologers do is to look closely at the current conditions on earth and begin to weave those details into the mythology of the named planet. What’s so amazing is that when one looks backward to the history, it is so clear how each planet and it’s astrological interpretations are ideally reflective of the conditions on earth.

Eris was officially announced to the world in July of 2005. In mythology she was the goddess of strife, discord, contention and rivalry. Hmmm, look around. See anything? The State of The Planet, perhaps? This is how it works when a new energy enters into our consciousness. Because Eris is so very far away she tends to remain in a zodiac sign for a very, very, very long time. She’s been traveling thru Aries now since April 1924 and she’ll be in that sign until 2045. Where is Aries in your natal chart?

Eris, The Goddess of Discord

One way to think about this would be to draw an analogy to the place where you live. Imagine for a moment that tomorrow when you wake up your home has suddently doubled in size with brand new rooms you’ve never seen or entered into before. It might take some time to ‘process’ that new information!

For now there’s nothing more to think about other than to figure out where in your life are you experiencing strife, discord & rivalry and how to deal with it. I suggest attending a yoga class.

Dear Journal,

We’re entering into another eclipse ‘season’. Oh my. On Saturday, March 3 there will be a lunar eclipse at 13Virgo which is the mid-point between my natal Mars & natal Saturn. It’s definitly a hot spot in my chart! I’ve learned that making absolute predictions doesn’t really work……it’s the essence & energy that’s important to understand.

Eclipse’s were feared in ancient times………they always seemed to bring about the death of the king or some other major change. Just imagine looking into the sky and seeing the moon (or the sun) disappear!

Eclipse’s always come in pairs so on March 18 we’ll have a Solar Eclipse at 28Pisces a much easier degree for me personally.

Breathing, relaxing, and practicing yoga is a good way to move thru stressful times. I’ll remember.

……………………………………to be continued.

Krishna’s Chariot

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna lays out a plan for Arjuna which begins with the instruction to “find his dharma”, or true purpose.

On the way to his dharma,  Arjuni found himself on a battlefield prepared for battle, and skilled as a warrior.  Facing him was an army of opponents including  family, friends, loved one, and many, many others that he knew.  And, of course, the others, too.

Finding our true selves and our true purpose can either be a life long pursuit or recognized in a flash of intuition. Either way is challenging at best. Here’s the plan that Krishna shared with Arjuna.

1. First, discover what your dharma (purpose) is.

2. Then, do it full out, hold nothing back. Give it your full attention.

3. Next, let go of the ‘fruits of the action’ or said another way, detach from the outcome.

4. And finally, dedicate your actions to the greater good of all beings.

Yeah, right! What Krishna doesn’t say is what specific actions to apply.  There is no manual or instruction sheet on how to figure out life purpose. If you are one of the lucky ones who are ‘born knowing’, you are blessed. Practice #3 & #4 consistently.

For the rest of us…………………….

Keep breathing, consciously, slowly, one breath at a time.

Om shanti, shanti, shantihi.

ps. you might want to consult with an astrologer for more information on this topic.

Greetings to all!

I’ve been wanting to begin a blog and it seems like today is the day. The time is 1:38pm on Sunday, February 18 and it’s Chinese New Year…..an auspicious time for beginnings.

I am calling this blog, The Teacher’s Diary and it’s my intention to share with you some of what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) as a yoga teacher. There’s a fine line between being a teacher and a student and more often than not I learn more from my students than they learn from me. More on that in the weeks to come.

For now, it’s enough for me to learn how to set up this blog!

Enjoy & Happy New Year!
