tugging on harp strings
Anahat - The Unstruck Sound
November 15, 2009
Download flyer here

Anahat is a sanskrit word for 'inner sound'
and refers to the 4th chakra of the body otherwise known as the
Heart Center.  It is believed that one cannot hear the unstruck sound until one has reached a certain level of consciousness of the  Heart.

The human body is a like a musical instrument. When we begin to pay attention to body sensations, heart beat & breath while playing the harp interesting things can begin to happen. Spiritual seekers have used music to reach altered states for eons.  The harmonics of the harp provide the exact right tone to connect with the heart.

This workshop is an opportunity to open the heart
and discover for ourselves how the body responds to harp vibrations.

I have been compiling a list of books at LibraryThing that  include  information on : yoga, chakras, sound & music therapy, and other related subjects.
Follow this link to my page.

**************************************************

The experiential portion of the program will include gentle hatha yoga (suitable for everyone) to release stress and open up the areas of the body which govern: creativity, intuition, & musical pathways.  We’ll cover various stretches/movements that keep the physical body relaxed while playing and in-between sets. (Our playing posture absolutely affects our music and vice-versa).  We will also practice pranayama (breathing techniques) where the musician will learn how to relax, energize or do both in less than a minute.  This is a must-know technique for those who perform.

We’ll use the harp as a tool for meditation which will also enhance the musician’s ability to: improvise, be an accompanist, compose, maintain consistent rhythms, and improve discipline.

The program will end with yoga nidra; a deep-relaxation technique that integrates all that has been presented there by helping the participants to retain what they’ve learned.  A short group discussion will bring us to closure and the participants will leave feeling relaxed, confident, creative & peaceful.
