“Breath is mind in action……. The implication of this technology is that we are not helpless victims of a given emotional state. By altering the flow of nasal breath, the body chemistry gradually changes and unwanted emotional and physiological states slowly disappear”

Harish Johari, author of Breath, Mind and Consciousness.

2012 - YOGA INTENSIVE - WINTER
inquire within

Consider this ………

  • The average human breathes 13-15 x a minute or 21,000-21600 times in a 24 hour day.
  • 15 breaths per minute =946,080,000 breaths to a full 120 years, which is the expected life span of a healthy human according to yogic texts.
  • During normal breathing one complete breath should last about 4 seconds and extend a distance of approximately 12 finger widths from the nose.

Yogi's measure a life not by chronological years but rather from the number of breaths one is allotted in each lifetime.  Logic suggests then to slow it down, and make each breath longer if one wants to live longer. In this way we actually conserve energy and increase our vitality and increase our chances of experiencing samadhi/bliss. However, experience has also taught us that life sometimes prevents us from being mindful of our breath. The Yogi's go on to teach that during those moments of 'unconsciousness' samakara's or energy cysts develop, and our energy becomes blocked.  An INTENSIVE such as this is the perfect practice for a perfect moment.
